We’re well into week two of SA’s national shutdown and you’re work situation is might be looking something like this: your daily commute now consists of you making your way from your bedroom to your office/ lounge/ freshly made bed. You’ve exchanged your power heels and usual work gear for a pair of fluffy slippers, oversized t-shirt and comfy sweat pants. Your hair is in a messy bun and you haven’t even so much glanced at your makeup bag. Which is totally okay given the circumstances.
But with many of us now working from home and conducting meetings via webcam, we might want to look a bit more professional when that conference call comes through. And to be honest, we don’t want to spend the entire day with heavy makeup on or hours getting ready. That why we chatted to international makeup artist, Raine Tauber, about her favourite runway creations and how to achieve something similar at home — all in under 10 minutes.
The inspiration
As seen on the runway for Andiswa Apparel and Shweshwekini, this look consisted of red lipstick topped with a sheer gloss, paired with a classically cat-eye liquid liner. These bold elements were set against dewy fresh skin with natural sculpting and highlight.
At home: Bright lips and fierce eyeliner
Recreate the dewy glow by using a nourishing face oil and minimal base like BB cream instead of foundation. If you don’t want to do both a dramatic eye and bold lipstick, you can opt for one or the other. If you’re going for a bold lip, Raine suggests trading the glossy metallic red for a classic matte instead. If you’re more of a dramatic eye kinda gal, then just pair it with a nude lip or some gloss for that “I’m dominating working from home” look.

The Inspiration
As seen on the runway for Michelle Ludek, an understated neon shadow in the corner of the eye.
At home: A pop of bright eyeshadow
This look is very understated, so you can keep it as is by using a bright eyeshadow on the inner corner of the eye and keeping your skin natural-looking by applying a light layer of BB cream or foundation. If you want to add a bit more colour to the look, Raine suggests adding a flush of blush, a pink or nude lipgloss and the switching the neon eyeshadow for a more muted shade such as coral or orange.

The Inspiration
From the runways of Gavin Rajah, this look featured natural-looking makeup with crystals across the face and neck.
At home: No makeup-makeup with a touch of sparkle
To achieve a more wearable version of this look, you just need to cut back on the number of crystals on the face. Apply your base, then as Raine suggests, sweep a soft matte brown on your lids, add a touch of blush, some mascara and a nude or pink lipstick or gloss. Finish the look off with a crystal under each eye or at the corners.
