Winter got you overindulging? Trying to eat less? While it seems comforting, those large portions will leave you feeling stuffed and sluggish. Try smaller portions that fuel your body and leave you feeling energised and alert. Here are some hacks:
1. Shrink Your Crockery
Conditioned to clean your plate? Eating off a smaller one will give you the same satisfaction even though you’re eating less food.
2. Bulk Up Your Meals
“Free salad” includes crunchy greens that are so low in kilojoules you can eat as much as you want, says dietician Carey Anne Seady. Make a big salad with celery, cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, radishes, leeks, green pepper and mushrooms. Fill half your plate with salad, then add other foods.

3. Scarf Down Veggies
Like the free salad, non-starchy veggies, like broccoli, cauliflower and gem squash are also low in kilojoules, says Seady. So make a big stir-fry!
4. Eat What You Can See
If you’re eating out, opt for food you can measure, like a steak (100g).

5. Drink Lots Of Water
You’re more likely to overeat when you’re thirsty because your body’s nagging you to hydrate. Fill a bottle and sip from it throughout the day.
