Could this be the world’s most Instagrammed coffee?
It’s the claim that has been made by Dayne Levinrad, a marketing exec and barista at The Grind Company in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since launching back in January, over 1 million images with the hashtag #CoffeeInACone have popped up on the social network. According to the site ExtraCrispy.com, the hashtag has been used more than 1,500 times in just the past six weeks!
The idea itself is simple… serve coffee in an ice cream cone lined with chocolate. However there is some major science going on behind Dayne’s caffeine creation.
Simply pouring coffee into a chocolate-lined wafer cone didn’t work initially – “the wafer was too thin,” Dayne told CNN. “We bought our own machine and started rolling our own wafer cones, using different flours, but the chocolate still melted. We couldn’t have any leakage.”Dayne use four different types of chocolate compounds to coat the cone, each hardened by varying percentages of cacao content. He’s currently going through the process of getting a patent for the creation.

But how easy is it to sip on exactly? You’ll have to drink your coffee for at least 10 minutes before the four chocolatey layers start to melt. This means you’ll have all the time in the world to take a few sips and snap a pic of your #CoffeeInACone.
It’s been such a huge viral success that copy-cat versions are already popping up in New Zealand, L.A and Berlin.
