Supersize Your H2O
Drinking water prevents water retention and means you’re not sipping on kilojoule-filled beverages like alcohol or fizzy drinks. Summer drinks like these cause blood-sugar spikes and tend to spur fat collection around the “love handle” areas on the back and sides.
Slash Sugar
Cut back on those high-fat and high-sugar snacks. Back fat often results from a sugary diet. Instead, munch on colourful and crunchy veggies to lower your kilojoules and eat lean proteins to keep you full.

Rough Patches

Dryness
Since they cover a large surface area, foam mitts made for self-tanners are also great for applying lotion where hands alone can’t reach. Try Vita Liberata Tanning Mitt (R135, VitaLiberata.co.za) with a two rand-coin size blob of moisturiser.
Pastiness
The easiest way to add some colour to your own back is with a mist-on tanner. Try Caribbean Tan Tanning Spritzer (R95 for 200ml, Clicks and Dis-Chem). Bend over slightly, then swing your arm over your shoulder and spritz. The colour will fall evenly onto your back.
