Hello two of our favourite things! (Wink.)
Dark chocolate and chilli are both believed to have aphrodisiac properties. Use this antioxidant-packed combo to give sweet dishes a tongue-tingling kick and savoury recipes added richness. Try these delicious recipes…
1. Sweet And Spicy Oats
Microwave one packet plain instant oats, half a cup low-fat milk and a quarter teaspoon chilli powder for one minute. Remove, stir, top with one tablespoon dark-chocolate chips and microwave for another 30 to 45 seconds. Sprinkle with cinnamon to taste and add two tablespoons low-fat milk.
2. Cocoa-spiced Steak
In a small bowl, mix together three tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, one teaspoon salt-free steak seasoning (try NOMU Steak & BBQ seasoning), one finely chopped garlic clove, half a teaspoon chilli powder and three tablespoons brown sugar. Rub mixture onto both sides of a 2.5cm thick, 450g flank steak. Over medium-high heat, grill steak for five to six minutes per side for medium rare. Remove from grill and allow to rest on a cutting board for five minutes before serving.
3. Vegetarian Chilli Con Cocoa
In a large pot, heat one tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add one chopped onion and one chopped green pepper; cook until soft (about five minutes). Add one can no-salt-added diced tomatoes, one can rinsed and drained kidney beans, one can drained no-salt added black beans and one cup low-sodium vegetable broth. Bring to a simmer and add 30g unsweetened chocolate, one teaspoon chilli powder and three tablespoons brown sugar. Stir until chocolate has melted. Simmer mixture for about 20 minutes, stirring to prevent sticking, until chilli bean mixture has thickened and flavours have melded.
