This Silly Season Workout Will Do Amazing Things For Your Core

It’s December. And, honestly, we couldn’t be asked to drag our glitter-spangled butts into a gym until January. But we also don’t want to lose all our hard-won gains. So we’re getting the best of both worlds with a fun festive workout challenge that you can do with your mates around the braai.

How It Works

No surprises – the challenge is based on the song “The 12 Days of Christmas”. But instead of useless flocks of birds, we’re giving you 12 days of plank variations to strengthen your core. It works like a pyramid. Each day, you’ll start with that day’s move, then work your way back down to day one. So the workout gets a little harder every day. The numbers of reps correspond to the day (e.g. on Day 4, you do 4 reps). Good news: Where you have to alternate left and right, each side counts as a rep on its own.

Ready To Give It A Go?

The trick is to try and maintain a strong high plank position from start to finish – no dropping to your knees; no sticking your bum in the air. If you watched the WH team, you’ll see that it’s harder than it sounds! Focus on keeping your core tight and your hips stable. If you need a break, high plank is your rest position.
