Aneeka's primal sandbag workout

This primal sandbag workout by WH Next Fitness Star finalist, Aneeka Buys, has you moving in multiple planes of motion to work your whole body in a short space of time.
The use of a weight and movements that require you to balance, challenges your core without you having to do a single crunch. Move in a circuit from one exercise to the next, performing as many reps as you can of each exercise in 40 seconds, then resting for 20 seconds before moving on to the next one. When you’ve done all the exercises, you’ve completed one round. As you get fitter, add more rounds and decrease your rest period.

How It Works

A sandbag is a great alternative to regular weights for functional training because it’s less rigid and moves more easily with you. It also better mimics the kind of weighted objects (or beings!) you’d carry in real life such as, say, a backpack, your toddler or your dog. If you don’t have access to a sandbag, a pocket of potatoes or oranges makes a good substitute! Not sure you can nail a sandbag workout? Try these 4 functional moves for better balance and coordination.
