“Bananas are a high in potassium and vitamin B6 and are a good source of fibre,” says nutritionist Dr Celeste Naudé. “Potassium helps to counteract the blood-pressure-raising effect of sodium, while vitamin B6 plays a role in protein metabolism, glucose and glycogen metabolism, production of neurotransmitters and immune function.”
