Believe it or not, there’s a lot you CAN do with vegan ingredients!
For some people, going vegan seems like a really difficult life choice because it really limits your dietary choices. Wrong! There are so many ways to ‘hack’ traditional recipes and give them a vegan makeover.
Below, you’ll find the best vegan food swaps and how to use them…

1. Chia Or Flax Meal Can Replace Eggs

Simply whisk chia or flax meal together with water (1Tsp to 3Tsp ratio respectively) and leave it to rest for 10-15 minutes. You’ll notice that it starts to turn gelatinous… like egg whites.
Use as you would an egg in baking.

2. Use Avocado Instead Of Butter

We’re all about the #AvoLove here at WH, so we’re particularly excited that we can substitute avocado for butter when baking (hello, healthy fats!).

3. Chickpea Water (yes!) Can Be Turned Into Meringues

Look, we know it sounds a little strange but don’t toss that water in your can of chickpeas. Instead, save it and whip it (like you would egg whites) with a little sugar to make meringues.

4. Coconut Milk Makes A Great ‘Whipped Cream’

Simply empty your tin of coconut milk into a container and leave it in the fridge overnight. Once it’s set, whip it into stiff peaks like you would with regular cream.

5. Tofu Makes The Perfect Scramble

Just because you’re vegan it doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a breakfast scramble. Tofu makes a great egg alternative!
Try this recipe (but skip the cheese) if you’re looking for a delicious take on the morning classic!

6. Add Xanthan Gum To ‘Froth’ Your Coffee

All you need just 0.1% xanthan gum in your coffee, that’s about 1 gram in a litre, and you’ve got your very own cappuccino.

7. Vinegar Transforms Mylk Into Buttermilk

Did someone say vegan buttermilk pancakes?! By simply adding just 1Tsp of apple vinegar, or lime or lemon juice to a 1 cup of mylk you can create a totally dairy-free buttermilk. Just leave it to sit for 10-15minutes after combining.

8. Cashews + Lemon Juice = Vegan Cheese

Yup! To make totally vegan cream cheese, simply mix ground up cashews with lemon juice and a little mylk to bends.
