So he can’t handle the side effects? Oh boohoo.
Male birth control has always been a myth. A mere concept only confined to urban legends and female fantasy… until now.
A recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism just delivered some news we’ve been waiting to hear for ages: There’s a new male birth control shot that actually works. Yes!
For the study, an international team of researchers looked at a group of 266 married men between the ages of 18 and 45 who received birth control shots every eight weeks. First, the good news: The shot was super successful at preventing pregnancy (of all the couples participating in the study, only four got pregnant). In fact, the researchers found the male birth control method to be almost as effective as the current version of the Pill. Ground-breaking!
But before you even get excited by the possibility of never having to pop the Pill again, let us give you the bad news: There’s no word as to when these sperm-stopping shots will actually hit the market.
And secondly, there’s the issue of side effects. The researchers actually stopped the study early because a few men were complaining of problems like acne, depression and mood swings—a.k.a. what women go through on a daily basis just to avoid an unwanted pregnancy (wait, so it’s OK for us to deal with the crazy side effects of the Pill but it’s not OK for the guys?!). Only 20 of the men who took part in the study complained about the side effects… and because of this the entire trial has been halted.
All we can say is this: It’s time for men to woman up.
